About The Course

The Bachelor of Science in Midwifery program (BSM) provides a higher level of midwifery competencies including the management of normal pregnancies/deliveries, postpartum period and the care of OB emergencies. The program also includes topics in the care of infants and children, midwifery pharmacology, reproductive health and the administration and supervision of the health care facility.

The BS Midwifery program provides a thorough training in providing primary health care services as well as assisting normal or high-risk pregnant women in both the private and community settings.

Unlike the Diploma in Midwifery which only takes 2 years to complete, the BS in Midwifery takes 4 years to complete and graduates need to take the licensure examination before they can practice as a Registered Midwife.

Teacher Certificate Program

The Teacher Certificate Program (TCP) is a non-degree program designed for individuals who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in any field and who intend to become teachers. TCP is the fastest way to get into the Teaching Profession, because it requires only 18 units of Professional Education subjects to qualify for taking the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET).

Individuals who complete the TCP are given a certification (NOT a degree or diploma) that they have completed the 18-unit professional education requirement to be allowed to take the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET). (See sources 1, 2, 3)

Licensure examination to take in order to practice as a Licensed Midwife

A graduate of BS in Midwifery needs to take and pass the Midwife Licensure Examination in order to practice the profession as a licensed Midwife in the Philippines. The examination is given by the Board of Midwifery under the supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
